As the easiest of our Alpine resorts this is a great place for a relaxing walking holiday.
From our base in the lakeside town of Strobl you can take the steamer to the picturesque neighbouring villages of St Wolfgang and St Gilgen. Just an hour away by bus, Salzburg has a fascinating history and makes a very enjoyable free day visit.

On these holidays there is a choice of two guided walks of varying difficulty each day.
ITINERARY
Day 1: arrival day |
|
Day 2: follow the historic lakeside path that follows
from St Gilgen to the pilgrimage church at St Wolfgang, or ascend onto Plomberg Rock for
stunning views over the lake.
Day 3: enjoy the meadows of Austria’s largest alm, the Postalm, and admire views from the plateau, or ascend the Blewand ridge before descending gradually to Strobl.
Day 4: ascend to the summit of the Zwolferhorn which rises above St Gilgen, either on foot or by cable-car, and from here soak up the panoramic mountain vistas from this high grassy ridge.
Day 5: free day - beautiful Salzburg is just an hour away by bus. Famous as Mozart’s birthplace, the city boasts a rich musical heritage and fine medieval architecture.
Day 6: travel to the Traun Valley for walks through the spectacular cliffs above the picturesque spa of Bad Goisern, enjoying views of the stunning Dachstein mountains.
Day 7: a chance to explore the lesser-known parts of the Postalm, perhaps reaching the summit of the Labenberg or Braunedkogel.

Each year we listen carefully to the views of our guests and make improvements to our walking programmes. Flights to Salzburg: Salzburg is the nearest airport to Lake Wolfgang and has regular onward connection by public bus to Strobl.

Catch the number 2 tram to the central railway station (every 15mins). From here there are hourly buses to Strobl - see details below.

Flights to Munich: Munich isn't the nearest airport to Strobl, but it does have the best variety of direct flights from the UK. If you are making your own arrangements you may want to consider one of the following options:

www.easyjet.com flights from Stansted & Edinburgh.
To transfer to Lake Wolfgang, one option is to join the HF Holidays' transfer. Please contact our Reservations Dept to book your place and to find out the latest times.
Alternatively Munich Airport has its own railway station and you should first take a train to Munich Ost station in the city centre, which takes 30 minutes. Next take a mainline train to Salzburg, from where there are buses to Strobl - see details below.
By Rail: The nearest mainline station to is at Salzburg, and for most people this is the best place to head for. Salzburg is about an hour's bus journey to the west of Lake Wolfgang. Alternatively you could take a branch line train to the nearer station at Bad Ischl, which is about 25 minutes to the east of the hotel. There are excellent bus connections from both Salzburg and Bad Ischl to Strobl. For train times and further information, visit the Austrian railways website: www.oebb.at (change language to English in top right hand corner). This website will also give you times of all forms of public transfort including buses and trams; just enter Strobl as your destination.
By Bus to Strobl: The no.150 bus runs approximately every hour and provides good connections to the Hotel Bergrose. Bus times are available on the Austrian railways website: www.oebb.at . In Salzburg the main bus station is just in front of the main railway station. The final destination for the bus is Bad Ischl, and the journey takes about 1 hour to reach Strobl.
Alternatively if you are taking the train to Bad Ischl, then the buses depart from very close to the station. Take a number 150 or 2560 bus heading towards Salzburg, and alight at Strobl after about 25 minutes.
