Day 1: Arrival in Arusha (1 night) in the shadow of
Mount Meru and meet our local trip leader. |
Day 2: Depart towards mighty Kilimanjaro (8 nights).
Departing from Lemosho Glades we trek through the
forest to camp at 2,750m.
Days 3-4: Our next two days take us to the Shira
plateau. As the vegetation thins we see the first
direct views of the peak. The following day we walk
across the plateau to Shira 2 Camp.
Days 5-6: Walk into alpine desert to Lava Tower
Camp at 4,600m. The following day after a short
descent we ascend the Barranco Wall and overnight
at Karango Camp.
Day 7: Walk on the steep Barafu path, with an
acclimatisation hike to 4,700-4,800m and overnight
at Barafu Camp.
Day 8: Today is the day we ascend to the roof of
Africa! After an early start, trek to the Kibo Crater
rim and then into the crater to camp. We can take
an optional walk to Furtwangler glacier.
Day 9: This morning we reach our ultimate goal,
Uhuru Peak. After sunrise and celebrations on the
peak we descend the glacial valley to
Mweka Camp.
Day 10: Steadily descend the mountain into the
rainforest, from where we transfer to our resort in
Arusha (1 night). Time for a hot shower, relax by
the pool and a celebration dinner.
Days 11-12: We travel to the Ngorongoro Crater
(2 nights). The open grasslands are home to an
astonishing variety of game including large herds
of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, elephants and also
lions and leopards. We take bush walks, game
drives and enjoy good food and relaxation.
Day 13: Transfer to Arusha for our flight home.
Day 14: Arrive UK.

| About
the walks |
 |
We take the long way up Kilimanjaro on the Lemosho route. This helps with acclimatisation and is also
probably the most scenic route. This challenging trek is combined with relaxed walking in the Masai plains.
 |
Guided Walks:
Kilimanjaro is not a technical climb, but the trek is made challenging by the altitude,
with the summit at 5,895m. Each day’s walk on the climb varies between 2 to 5 hours, and an
average elevation gain of 585m per day. HF Holidays’ partners have the best success rate of
any operator and are vastly experienced. You will be provided with first-rate backup before
and during your trip, and unforgettable memories for afterwards. |
