2009 Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Lima - 1 night

Day 2: Fly to the attractive colonial city of Arequipa (1 night), with views towards the spectacular
surrounding volcanoes. Afternoon walking tour of the city’s plazas, churches and museums.

Days 3-5: Stay for 3 nights at Colca Lodge. We will take a range of walks from the hotel, through the
canyon, past villages untouched by time, next to and across steep mountains lined with impressive
ancient Inca terraces. There will also be a leisurely visit to Condors Cross where these majestic huge
birds can be seen swooping in the thermals.

Day 6: Return drive to Arequipa (1 night) with a little longer to explore the city.

Days 7-10: Fly to Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas (4 nights) and take an afternoon walk to Pisac ruins. Our range of walks, many on old Inca trails, take in the ruins of Maras and Moray, the spectacular fortress of Ollantaytambo and the colourful local craft markets.

Day 11: Take the train to Aguas Calientes (1 night) for an afternoon tour of Machu Picchu. Soak up the atmosphere after the majority of visitors have left, including perhaps a climb of Huayna Picchu for
superb aerial views. You will also have time to visit the following morning.

Days 12-13: Afternoon return by train to Cusco (2 nights). Explore the heart of this ancient city, as well as the outlying temples, including Sacsayhuaman.

Day 14: Fly to Lima and then on to our flight home.

Day 15: Arrive UK.

Inca Trail option

Days 8-11: Our first day is spent trekking along the Inca Trail (3 nights) to the first camp at Llactapata ruins. We follow the remarkably well-preserved Inca pathway through the rich cloud forest of the Cusichaca Valley before the third and
possibly most strenuous day of the trek, crossing two high Andean passes (13,750ft and 12,950ft) amongst awe-inspiring scenery. Our final night is spent in Aguas Calientes before our tour of Machu Picchu and return to Cusco.

Lake Titicaca option
Extend your holiday by 3 nights with a journey to Lake Titicaca. Take the Andean Explorer train across the high plains of the Andes, past small villages and under towering peaks, to Puno (2 nights) on the shores of the lake. Visit the Uros floating reed islands and Taquile Island for a walk to see the brilliantly deep blue waters set against the desert-like shores, and in the distance
the Cordillera Real ranges of Bolivia. Our final night is spent in Lima before our flight home.

Supplement: £385 per person includes 3 nights’ accommodation, full day train journey, sightseeing and meals. Please enquire for further details.

Single supplement: £60.
